Sam “The Slammer” Snead (1912 – 2002), a native son of Virginia, was an American professional golfer and widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974. He is credited with 82 PGA tour victories over a career spanning six decades.
